Here is another image in my book, The Ugly Duckling. Watercolors have a wonderful quality to the storytelling. The watercolors add layers of transparent color one on top of the other. You start with light washes. You continue with transparent washes as your washes get darker. Hopefully your end result is a beautiful image.

Watercolors can have a mind of their own.  It can be very challenging. This image was started  and it was OK.  I went back in later to improve the painting with more layers. I added more darker layers to make this image better. It really contrasts the white swans and the dark background.
